Joe, There is one thing you will learn about Linux: always read the docs, etc. ;)
# Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash) # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a # # for commentary and a ; for parts of the config file that you # may wish to enable ... ;[homes] ; comment = Home Directories ; browseable = yes ... ; valid users = %S ... ; writable = yes Take out the semi-colons and try again. There are lots of other settings you can enable in that file. Good luck!
