   Linda,

I created the piece 'Hose Inspection' as a computer art debut entry
in the 1996 Shrimp and Petroleum Festival Art Show in Morgan City. I
had been working with computer graphics for 10 years and thought
that this would be a great opportunity to show how computers could
contribute the arts. However as this was the first time anybody had
entered artwork created completely by computer graphics there was
some discussion as to how my entry would be classified. It was
finally decided to create a new category, computer art for the 1996
   show.

The piece itself was created from photographs taken of live subjects
working at a fire station in Morgan City. The photographs were
scanned and loaded into a vector editing program where they were
traced . The scene was rendered by drawing each vector and polygon
by hand. Then each polygon was individually shaded with a colored
gradient. The whole process took about a month. The result was an
   Honorable Mention ribbon that year.

The software used was Professional Draw by Golden Disk Software. In
1996 the operating system used was Windows 95 on a Intel 80286 based
system. Of course there is no more Professional Draw, Golden Disk
Software and Windows 95 is fond memory of computer aficionados.
Today there are incredibly powerful personal computers creating
life-like animation and digital art systems are increasingly the
   medium of choice among artists.

I've been creating digital art since 1986 and am glad to have been
doing so from almost the beginning of the personal computer era.

   Sincerely,
   Byron Como
