Well I had chrubuntu installed. It has more to do with the MC client and
how you want the game experience to be. You need surprisingly decent specs
to run MC client (which is to say: not running client and server on the
same system) fluidly. You could run it on a 2GB Chromebook but prepare
yourself for sluggish performance and low distance rendering. Keeping in
mind that this is for a child, that might be perfectly acceptable. YMMV
