when i mentioned that there was an irc channel associated with the project, groans of 'oh no, more undocumented out-of-band stuff' arose.
oh no, more undocumented out-of-band stuff! ;-P
nevertheless, i think irc has its place in communication. so, to bridge the gap, i have set my bot to logging all the traffic on the irc channel, to <url:http://source-zone.org/apache-irc/>. anyone who joins the channel gets notified that it's being logged, so it shouldn't catch anyone by surprise..
Please, please, please everyone *don't* use IRC as a primary communication system.
I *won't* partecipate except on predefined invitation, because I don't have the time nor the energy to follow live discussions, as many others.
I *do* see the need for higher-bandwidth discussions from time to time, but I still think (and this is from my personal experience, but maybe I'm wrong), that a *permanent* channel _can_ be damaging.
IMO these _public_ chats should be advertised and programmed beforehand, to minimize discrimination on timezones.
Anyway, what I had to say I said, the rant is done, this is all I have to say on this, so I'll stop it here.
Darwinian evolution will see /if/ and /how/ IRC can help ;-)
