I'm not one of the people involved in the decision, but if I had to guess I'd say it stems from the fact that there's been virtually no activity in the apache commons project. The only project that ever became part of it was serf, and it's been largely inactive for months. If there's no community of people scrambling to put code into the commons project, there's little reason for it to exist.


Where will the exisitng code go?

Greg's commit message says that serf development will continue outside the ASF.
