It seemed like a simple enough question for the group,  Mike.  I can't
imagine I'm only one messing around with indexes and schema.

In any case, the answer to my question appears to be no, there is no
need to reindex if one is removing a schema association.  Mary Holstege
pointed out that one needs to be sure to look at the higher level group
settings for schema to make sure one knows where all the mappings occur.

As to the core of my problem, I do believe I'll contact support when I
have a chance to write it up further -- I think it might be bug in the
database w/re to interaction between an xs:string index and xdmp node
updates/replacements on xs:NMTOKENs.
