Hi Simon, A few other points worth noting here: If you want stemming to occur on mixed case or all cap words, you can use the case-insensitive option to the query. Using an example similar to yours, you can run this:
let $el := <Ele>AM</Ele> for $i in ("ARE","BE","IS","AM", "BEEN", "WAS") return if (cts:contains($el,cts:element-word-query(xs:QName("Ele"), $i, ("case-insensitive"))) ) then $i else () Which returns: ARE BE IS AM BEEN WAS Also, if you want to find what a word stems to, you can use cts:stem. For example: cts:stem("AM"), cts:stem("am"), cts:stem("Am") AM be Am -Danny From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2008 9:09 AM To: General Mark Logic Developer Discussion Cc: General Mark Logic Developer Discussion; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [MarkLogic Dev General] English auxiliary verbs match oneanotherunexpectedly Hi Colleen, Thanks for your quick response. If we take the following two examples could you explain why I get different results Example 1 <Ele>AM</Ele> for $i in ("ARE","BE","IS","AM", "BEEN", "WAS") return if (cts:search(doc("/ric-test-document-7.xml"),cts:element-word-query(xs:QN ame("Ele"), $i, ("case-sensitive"))) ) then $i else () Result: AM Example 2 <Ele>am</Ele> for $i in ("are","be","is","am", "been", "was") return if (cts:search(doc("/ric-test-document-7.xml"),cts:element-word-query(xs:QN ame("Ele"), $i, ("case-sensitive"))) ) then $i else () Result: are be is am been was In example 1 I am guessing that stemming is not occuring since the option "case-sensitive" is set. However, stemming must be occuring in Example 2 to return the complete set of strings. Why is stemming not occuring in the first example and is in the second example?
