Betty, I think WebDAV will get you what you’re looking for. For example, if I create a WebDAV server on port 9999, I can GET, PUT, and DELETE over HTTP, as such:
curl --digest -u user:pass -T local_file.xml http://hostname:9999/remote_location.xml The above uses the curl HTTP client to PUT the contents or local_file.xml on my machine to the remote URL, http://hostname:9999/remote_location.xml. You can use the WebDAV server’s root property to specify how the PUT URL translates to database URIs. For example, with a root of /my/stuff/, the above would create a document /my/stuff/remote_location.xml in the database attached to the WebDAV server.
