Hi Paul,

The contents of the element is type casted to the type chosen for the range 
index. It is not the same as applying fn:data on the contents, but the result 
will appear the same in cases like this. (See admin guide 
http://developer.marklogic.com/pubs/4.1/books/admin.pdf paragraph 21.1)

A collation specifies the order for sorting strings. So that won't make a 
difference I guess.. (See search dev guide 
http://developer.marklogic.com/pubs/4.1/books/search-dev-guide.pdf paragraph 
18.2)

You haven't said what your problem exactly is, but I am guessing you were 
expecting white-space between the text nodes. I am afraid you will have to put 
those *in* your data to get those in the index. Indexation cannot add 
characters that are not there..

If you can tell more on what you are trying to achieve, we might be able to 
help you find a way around this..
