MarkLogic can hold textual, binary, and XML documents. The contents doesn't matter in that respect. Size does to some extent (there are limits to what can (reasonably) be loaded into MarkLogic). Whether the XML is useful in the format you load it, depends on what you would like to do with it, and whether the XML format as-is fits those needs..
