Another way to think about this is that bitemporality tracks things over time, whereas versioning tracks version numbers. If you want to know your document state at a particular point in time, versioning doesn’t help unless you know what versions were in play at that point.
Also, temporal queries are not necessarily point in time, but range queries. You can find out the state during a time range, for example.
