You can just create a new forest with the same path as the deleted one and it will use the forest that is under that path.

I am going to rebuild a host that has been unstable. I used replication to migrate forest data off of the host that will be shut down. All the forests have been migrated, and the forests still attached to this host are not connected to any database. When I delete the forest, I have an option to delete Configuration only, or wipe forest off disk entirely. I understand the difference here, but is there a supported method to "import" or re-use a forest if it was deleted "configuration only"? I might try to move the deleted forest to a new location, and specify that "new" folder when creating a new forest. Would the new forest have all the same documents as it did when I deleted it? I didn't find the documentation that suggests what I could do with an orphaned forest folder, but it made me curious since the option is available. What use case was in mind for a disconnected forest directory? John Chertudi
