In the dissect window.
Dissect's tooltips are created by dissect, not by Qt (they depend on
where the cursor is so it would be impractical to keep updating all the
Qt tooltips as you mouse around). Thus, their characteristics are
attributes of dissect.
When you get the dissect display as you like it, you can save the
configuration and it will be automatically applied from then on.
Also, attributes deemed to apply to the user rather than the problem
(font size is an example) are global for all invocations of dissect in a
J session.

Preferences where -- can you be more specific?
I don't find any Preferences whatsoever on the jqt menu. And none in the Mac's
System Preferences menu. None, also, in jet's qtide.cfg.

Look at Preferences|Tooltip Font Size
I haven't run much with larger tooltip fonts, so let me know if there
are problems.

The yellow-background tooltip windows that pop up from the dissect display use a
font size that is so small as to be unreadable (at least on my 27" iMac screen).
Is there some way to change that?
If not, the dissect display is largely useless for me, which is a shame.
