Apparently the updated ide/ja package breaks the plot package. Simple load 'plot' plot i.8 produces opengl error. Tried to uninstall ide/ja. Restarted j. On start up j still complains about not finding ide/ja. Plot still fails. Uninstalled plot, reinstalled it. No success. Uninstalled j. Reinstalled j and only the graphics packages. Plot works fine.
