Good news is I can now reproduce the seg fault. It works for me with my linux distribution of python 3.5.2 with a manually added numpy.
It seg faults with 3.6.4 anaconda. The seg fault is caused by a in passing parameters from python to the j shared library. Disappointing that it works with 3.5.2 and fails on 3.6.2. I have an idea of where to look (there were a few mysteries in getting 3.5.2 to work).
