It may be helpful, here to look at the list of 1!:n commands in J's source code
https://github.com/jsoftware/jsource/blob/master/jsrc/x.c#L77 The names are in two columns (monadic, dyadic) and many of the names are usefully descriptive. (They all begin with jt which isn't relevant here, but the part which follows is a good sanity check on their functionality.) Note also that the file locking functions only work on certain operating systems.
