I think the culprit is the git hard reset which was introduced a few days ago. I have a local OpenSSL git checkout which is outdated. When doing a pull there I get the newest files, but after the hard reset I again see the outdated state. This happens with "master" as the last argument to the pull, but also without it.

What was the reason for the hard reset and could we remove it until a better solution is found?

The problem is still there, even after Mark's cleanup of the local openssl repos.
