This describes the problem space pretty well, I think.
Long-term future plans involve extending ManifoldCF so it can scale in a distributed fashion, which will require initial work to use Zookeeper as the cross-process synchronization mechanism, as well as building a distributed queue across multiple database instances. Also, ManifoldCF has rather unique requirements as far as testing infrastructure is concerned, which could arguably lead to other spinoff Apache projects someday.
