Hello, Isn't the only official release via www.apache.org/dist (http://www.apache.org/dev/release.html#where-do-releases-go) so the fact that github does anything with tags is just a side issue?
I think the whole github mirror is just a very handy convenience for forks/pulls and public visibility. Makes life easier for everyone. If github want to mark things as 'github' releases then it's a small price to pay.
