Recently when accepting a donation to the Cassandra project I needed to update
content/ip-clearance/cassandra-easy-cass-stress.xml in the incubator repo. Not
being familiar with svn (given its relatively limited applicability in modern
usage of source control) I opted to use git-svn. The clone took over 12 hours
(and thats not counting the number of times it failed due to things like
network issues and required being restarted). Its possible I could've reduced
this by having more knowledge of SVN. However, my task was to update 4 lines
(about 16 characters) in a file. The task ended up spanning several days to
complete when it should've taken less than a couple minutes. The project should
move to git.
