Super bummer, Doug. I know exactly how you feel. When I found my
current job 5 years ago, I had been down and out for 2 full years.
My only suggestion. Find as many networking groups (employment,
professional, civic clubs, churches or synagogues, grocery store
lines, etc.) as you can. Any more, it seems like over half of the new
jobs are never advertised in the traditional fashion. Anyone you meet
is a potential contact for a job you would never learn about in any
other way.
In my own case, I thought I would never be employed again (age 60),
and so I signed up for training as a real estate agent. I spent about
three months in Real Estate, and never earned a red cent, but the
process I went through and the people I had to deal with provided just
the boost I needed to get out of the dumps and to present a positive
attitude during the interview for my current job.
Hope you are not out of work as long as I was.
