gmail has a feature to let you know where it was accessed.. I'm not sure 
where's the link but I did experienced receiving alert somebody logged my 
account from Israel.changed my password later on.

After all it's gmail and we can see tailored advertisement at the 
sides...meaning confidentiality isn't something to expect from so called free 
service
