But the proposal here was to have a bush of branches, all of which need to be merged at the same time. It's possible that some would merge and some would fail, leaving me in an inconsistent state, and no easy way to get back to where I started.
A fix could be applied to some kernels, but not others. In fact, if a patch works for kernel X & Y, but has a conflict with kernel Z, then different patches are needed anyway. I don't see the requirement to merge everything or even apply a fix to all kernels at the same time.
