Gang, JavaZone 2009 in Oslo has now been completed and from with my OPS4J hat on, I was slightly surprised that the Pax project was heralded as "the best OSGi toolchain out there" by a couple of speakers, who I think are not directly involved in our community.
Also, Jason van Zyl had a good (confident, funny!...) presentation about upcoming Maven 3.0 (+m2eclipse & Nexus). The baseline was "drop-in replacement" of Maven 2. Now, he also said that they were looking for projects to test against, and I am curious to know if anyone here has tried Maven 3 on Pax projects? My attendence was primarily for DDD reasons, which collided with some other interesting talks, but we can all watch the videos later. Another funny presentation was "Reflection Madness", which basically had a "What I am going to show, NEVER do it!!!". For instance; public static void main( String[] args ) { Hack.hack(); System.out.printf( "6 times 7 is %s", 6 * 7 ); } 6 times 7 is 43 by hacking the auto-boxing cache. All-in-all, a very large conference with a strong grass-root "feel" with a decent set of speakers. I still think Oredev in Malmo is "better". And the improvements I would like to see happening; - Too much material and closing ceremony in Norwegian. - Have a hackathon area where speakers and community leaders hang around. The JavaBin booth might have been intended for it, but wasn't set up to be convenient. - The Spektrum (a sports arena) is not well suited. Presentation rooms becomes 'awkward', hallways and room access extremely crowded. - Chairs for audience is to narrow. It is not comfortable to sit shoulder to shoulder. 20% more spacing definitely needed.
