yes, for production environments that do not have direct interest in actively contributing to the pax exam 2 development branch i recommend 1.x. (Currently 1.2.4)
As soon as the 2.0 dev branch is recommended (which mostly is due to downstream projects) there will be just one exam (then 2.x) again.
