While I think that there are various things have to be fixed in front of
a 2.3.0 release there are still tons of new interesting features and
bug-fixes already in trunk. To make it easier for the community to test
those new concepts I propose to release a M1 release of the current trunk.

The new features and fixes I added over the past few weeks are all backed by regression tests which pass, and there's enough documentation in the Wiki for people to start experimenting and give us feedback.

An important point for the last mile towards 2.3.0: How much backward compatibility to 2.2.0 is required, and how to achieve it, and user feedback on this would be very helpful.

So yes, I think this is a good moment for a 2.3.0.M1 milestone release. I'd have time on my hands to take care of it early next week.

Best regards,
Harald
