For in-depth learning it does make sense to at least have seen the plumbing
API.

I agree with Harald that, for starters, you should have a look at porcelain
level first, which is the junit driver etc.
The Lean-PaxExam project went out of sync, very true. Changing that. I was
thinking of a koan-style tutorial [1].
