You realize that there are prizes for all categories? Maybe it is a
lot cheaper to develop a non-game app, and so the prize is
proportional to the initial development cost?

I don't think the app challenge discourages non-game development. I
could (if I was not an Intel employee) win 120000USD by making a cool
calculator or alarm clock.... That's a lot easier than developing a
full clone of "Enraged Avians" ;^)
