Hi,
IIRC Kubuntu will use Wayland
[http://blogs.kde.org/2013/06/26/kubuntu-wont-be-switching-mir-or-xmir]
so it's the shorter path to go from Ubuntu to Kubuntu (difference is
in repository list and more standardized Desktop than the Mir-based
unity) than from Ubuntu to separate distro.
For this reason I am successfully using Kubuntu flavour for Qt for
Tizen SDK (http://qtfortizen.blogspot.com/2013/10/1.0alpha4.html) -
the benefit is standard path compatible with what the original Tizen
SDK bundle expects.

That does not mean I won't be happy seeing support for Debian, Fedora
and especially openSUSE (my default).

BTW:
1. This topic belongs more to IVI 3.0; Tizen mobile profile gets
commercialized with 2.2 and this stays with X11 IIRC.
2. If I understand correctly, whether display subsystem of the
workstation is X11 or Wayland or Windows' or Mac OS X's matters if we
want to avoid Tizen Emulator's display to and show the graphics
natively for best performance possible, superfast deployment without
huge packaging tasks, as it's for example done in x86 desktop target
of Qt for Tizen (60fps easily in complex UIs without draining CPU or
GPU too much).
