We have managers because we have a paid staff, period.
We discuss management matters on the public mailing lists because we
are maintaining a transparent organization because it aligns with our
values and organizational mission. If the messages bother you then
don't read them, discussions such as changing the office hours time
are on the public list to maintain transparency but we don't assume
every subscriber is going to care about them, it's just is a matter
of policy that these things be addressed publicly.
Although I've never seemed to think the high level of competence at
OSAF was a negative quality I now know that my opinion is not shared
with the entire world. If you would like you can address this concern
to the list the next time we have a discussion about the OSAF
structure and participation, I suggest you use the subject "Please
try to involve more commiters/members who are not very smart and
haven't been successful anywhere else ever".
If it makes you feel any better my experience has been that OSAF has
a very high level of dedication and the everyone wants to ship the
products we are working on very much and we are working very hard to
do so, in fact we have people who take the time to answer angry
emails at 1am PST.

No one incidence in specific, no message in specific, but the
overall approach. It's all upper-management stuff, Type 2, which
reflects the kernel of truth in the observation that this project
is formed by successful people.
I apologise for the brutal grunt tone of my message, but I've been
watching these things go past for more than a year... and every now
and then, I think you need to hear from the trench types - I'm not
saying anything here that the average worker doesn't say every day
about management in their workplace.
You're too good, that's the problem... you need some desperate
people clawing for a piece of the pie, willing to get something out
that has a chance!
