I'm fine with it

There have only been positive responses to the proposal: Run with
it. But I'd like to give one last chance to latent dissenters to
voice any concerns by end of day. Otherwise, I will add the tagline
to the launch cards and send them out to be printed for OSCON.

*Subject: **[Pr] [Please Review] Tagline: Run with it.*
6 weeks ago, we began our journey to find our tagline. We've
defined goals and requirements, sent numerous surveys to
friends, colleagues and the Chandler users list and along the
way we have accrued an impressive grab-bag of ideas. The
process as a whole has been chock full of useful feedback and
insights.
However, an 'obvious' candidate has not clearly emerged from
the crowd of possibilities and I don't think we're going to be
able to close on a tagline as a group. So I'm proposing that we
go with: *'Run with it.' *for the OSCON launch cards. (Which
leaves us plenty of time to recant in time for the Preview
Release August 6th.)
*I realize it's a bit out of left field.*
1. It's not at all concrete. (Which was a requirement I
stressed early on.) The product name Chandler with a dog logo
and 'Run with it.' as a tagline sounds more like a dog leash
company.
2. It doesn't really imply groups or sharing or
collaboration...unless you count images of stampedes or running
with the bulls of Pamplona.
3. It doesn't define itself against the Inbox as a problem area
our target users can identify with.
*So why go with 'Run with it.'?*
1. Well. I wonder how important it is to be concrete in the age
of the blogosphere and viral marketing. If someone finds out
about Chandler because someone blogs about us, won't they get
context about what we are from the blog?
2. I think the running in a group imagery could be developed to
evoke group-ish feelings, in hindsight if not at first sight.
Also, it's not like we came up with any other compelling
sharing / group taglines. We might just need to be satisfied
with something allusory instead.
3. We can still use the 'Inbox' as an anchor for the product
definition.
*What I like about Run with it.*
1. Free, adaptable, flexible, easy-going.
2. Has all of the excitement and adventure of 'Fly by the seat
of your pants' and 'Make it up as you go' without any of the
negative connotations of incompetence and laziness.
3. Positive. Inspiring.
4. Relates to our logo.
Unless someone sees a serious problem with trying this tagline
out at OSCON, I propose we go with this for the OSCON launch
cards. If it's a disaster at OSCON, we still have time to do a
last minute switcharoo on the landing page before the Preview
release.
Let's have a 2-day period for feedback and comments, so please
reply by end of day Wednesday.
Thanks!
Mimi
