As a side project, I'm working on fleshing info on the Chandler Project
interop landscape.
The idea is to take another slice at documenting interop. The hope is
to add some new dimension to the existing fine interop overview here:
http://chandlerproject.org/Projects/ChandlerInterop
It'd be helpful to start with a consensus about the "above the line"
list of products that should be documented. In preparing lists, I've
come up with a proposed "shortlist" and "long tail" list, seen below.
Any feedback is welcomed. I'm looking for both:
* Long-tail packages that should be added. Things you've heard
people mention (on lists or elsewhere; bah, I just realized I need to
flesh out mobile on the lists below).
* "Shortlist" additions or removals. As part of the interop doc
effort, I'd like to write a little paragraph about the status of each of
these, so the shorter the list the better. If you really think a
product should be on the FAQ list, though, then let's add it to the
short list.
The shortlist:
---+++ Desktop clients
* Chandler Desktop
* Outlook 2007 (Win)
* Outlook 2003 (Win)
* Lightning (Sunbird by proxy) (Win)
* Evolution (Ubu)
* iCal 2.x (Mac)
* iCal 3.x (Mac)
---+++ Web services
* Chandler Hub
* Google calendar
* Yahoo calendar
* Facebook
* Flickr
* Twitter
* Amazon
---+++ Email clients
* Thunderbird
* iMail
* Google mail
* Yahoo mail
---+++ Web browsers
* Firefox 2 (Win,Mac,Ubu), MSIE 6+7 (Win), Safari 2+3 (Mac)
---+++ Calendar servers
* Chandler Server (Cosmo)
* Apple Calendar Server
---+++ Email servers
* Exchange, Courier IMAP, uw-imapd, Java System Messaging Server
6.2, Gmail, Yahoo mail, Dotmac
and then another list of products that are in the long-tail. We're
aware of them, and would gladly document anything that might be reported
about how these work. But we're unlikely to go try these out
officially, or document specifics as we might for the list above.
---++ Chandler Project package interop extended list
* Desktop clients
* Outlook Express (Windows Mail in Vista)
* Lotus Notes
* Web services
* Zimbra
* MySpace
* Email clients
* Mulberry
* Eudora for Mac
* Hotmail, Earthlink, AOL
* Web browsers
* Opera 9, Opera mini, iPhone, Blackberry, MSIE 5, Firefox 1.5
* Calendar servers
* Oracle, RSCS, Bedework, Zimbra
* Email servers
* Dovecot, Courier SMTP, Cyrus
