Just in case people is not noticing, we're running out of time in case
we want to mentor Google Summer of Code grants this year.

Google have changed things quite a bit for the application process to
GSoC this year. Many of the changes make it much harder for whoever
administers the Apache application since a great deal of information
needs to be collected beforehand.
That, coupled with the fact that in terms of timing things are quite
difficult for me this year (i.e. I have had no time until now to even
look at GSoC) means that we are running late. The deadline for
applications is 12th March
So, assuming that nobody has already filled in an application for Apache
I am happy to do so, but I need the following:
- a provisional list of mentors this is not a commitment to mentor, nor
is it a guarantee that you will get a student, it is merely an
expression of interest. I'll need your Google Account information (see
https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount to create one) if you want
to mentor.
So, please express your interest in being a mentor by adding yourself to
the wiki page at http://wiki.apache.org/general/SummerOfCode2007
*AND* by letting me know your GMail account details via a reply to this
mail (probably best to make that offlist to keep the noise down).
Also, I need a co-administrator (Google call it a back up administrator,
but this year I want help if I am to take this on, so I am calling it a
co-administrator).
The role of the admin is to coordinate things here so that we meet
deadlines for GSoC, to monitor the admin list at Google so that we can
answer questions here and to work with the webapp in the last few days
to ensure our selection of projects is fair to everyone (or as close as
it can be). Last year this took up just a couple of hours a week until
the final deadline, then it took about 15 hours. It's the application
process and the final sprint I specifically want help with.
So, can we have a volunteer for co-administrator please.
Ross
