Dear directors, dear committers of the XML Graphics project, I've recently decided to resign as PMC chair of the Apache XML Graphics project. I've been on the post since the project was spun off the Apache XML project in 2004. Since then, the project has seen a steady activity and various releases. However, every now and then I found myself in the middle of conflicts with some committers which I was never really good at resolving, especially being the PMC chair. I even found myself at a conflict of interest during these conflicts because I was on this post. I believe it's time to change the PMC chair for the XML Graphics project. Another person can do this differently.
Simon Pepping, a FOP committer since April 2004 and PMC member since the formation of the XML Graphics project, volunteered to take over the post. He was actually one of my favourite candidates, so I'm happy and thankful that he has volunteered. He brings the right coolness and experience to the post. The XML Graphics PMC has voted Simon Pepping to become my successor (8 +1 votes, 2 did not vote). I ask the board of directors to accept my resignation and discuss and approve the resolution below on the next board meeting. I'm taking a timeout from the XML Graphics project to cool down and renew my motivation to work on these great pieces of software. I intend to come back at some point. In the meantime I'll be working on other projects (both open source and personal). I'll also see to it that Simon has everything he needs for a smooth transition. ---------- WHEREAS, the Board of Directors heretofore appointed Jeremias Maerki to the office of Vice President, Apache XML Graphics, and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors is in receipt of the resignation of Jeremias Maerki from the office of Vice President, Apache XML Graphics, and WHEREAS, the Project Management Committee of the Apache XML Graphics project has chosen by vote to recommend Simon Pepping as the successor to the post; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Jeremias Maerki is relieved and discharged from the duties and responsibilities of the office of Vice President, Apache XML Graphics, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Simon Pepping be and hereby is appointed to the office of Vice President, Apache XML Graphics, to serve in accordance with and subject to the direction of the Board of Directors and the Bylaws of the Foundation until death, resignation, retirement, removal or disqualification, or until a successor is appointed. ---------- Thanks, Jeremias Maerki
