Doh Too late. I managed to get it working. I'll post here for others, but
will take your advise and take a look and PO2 too.

The problem was two fold, I hadn't run the command portmap. I assumed this
would be running already as part of the TCP/IP stack. Wrong. So running this
with no args got the port mapper running.

Then I got the error that no programs were registered. This again was
because I was expecting the TCP/IP stack to pick the port from the TCP/IP
database of rpc programs. It doesn't. The nfs deamon (nfsd) has to be run
manually. Then kaboom it worked! NFS from Linux to Amiga...
 
So in summary:

portmap
nfsd

and thats all! (Don't forget to add the Amiga devices to the nfsd.config
file...)
