Assuming you're using a normal modem and not some other device, are you
sure this isn't your modem that's set up wrong? Some modems won't report
a speed unless you turn on an option by sending a modem command.
Also, 115200 isn't a very helpful indication in any case, as that's the
speed of the serial port, not the line speed.
On many modems adding "W2" to the initialisation string is helpful, as
that will set the CONNECT report to show the line speed.
