And yes, the first is transcript and the second gene. This can be confirmed by examining the transcript description page. Example: search in hg18 with ENST00000379440. Then click on the transcript name in the assembly browser display and compare the description to the table content you obtain from a download (Table browser or Ftp) using the same identifier.
