Hi Peng,

The gene search box is a relatively new addition to the Genome Browser,
with further documentation coming soon. Some preliminary documentation
is available in our news archives at:

http://genome.ucsc.edu/goldenPath/newsarch.html#022410

The gene search box takes users directly to the UCSC/Known Genes or
Refseq record associated with their gene of interest. Only assemblies
that have UCSC/Known Genes or Refseq tracks will display a gene search
box; the suggestion software preferentially uses gene names from
UCSC/Known Genes.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact the mail
list again if you require further assistance.

Best,
Mary
