Hello Amy,

As a general check, I tested the file name to make sure it wasn't 
causing a problem. I tested it with both "gunzip" and "gzip -dc" and 
both would uncompress it.

To start, please double check the original .wig file format versus the FAQ.

Then gzip it again and try the same command that produced the error. If 
something corrupted the data, it would be unlikely to occur twice, and 
this is important to eliminate before we go further.

If you do get an error again, then problem is with something else. In 
that case, please send more details about your analysis pipeline.

Just so you know, we are no longer recommending the use of .wig format. 
The preferred format is .bigWig, although this may not be a format 
accepted by all kent utilities yet. Feedback about what does not work 
with this format (if you decide to use it) would be greatly appreciated.
