Hello Greg,

These random fasta files represent the unplaced genome sequence in the 
assembly. The "Gateway" page for each assembly has a list of all the 
main assembly back-bone reference sequences, descriptions, credits, and 
links to external contributors (that often have more details of interest).

To locate the Gateway page for an assembly:
  - http://genome.ucsc.edu/
  - Genome Browser
  - select assembly from top pull down menus. The result is the
    gateway page. Scroll down for the information.
