Dear Hao,

On the description page for that gene (you can get to this page by clicking on
the gene when it is displayed in the browser)

http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgGene?hgg_gene=uc003zpk.1&hgg_prot=P42771&hgg_chrom=chr9&hgg_start=21957750&hgg_end=21965038&hgg_type=knownGene&db=hg18

It states,"This gene generates several transcript variants which differ in
their first exons. At least three alternatively spliced variants encoding
distinct proteins have been reported, two of which encode structurally related
isoforms known to function as inhibitors of CDK4 kinase."

Hope that this helps answers your question. If you have further questions,

Subject: [Genome] Gene CDKN2A hg18 Canonical

Dear Colleague,

Genes like CDKN2A has two entries or more in the hg18 Canonical Gene:

        chr9 21957750 21965038 uc003zpk.1
        CDKN2A
        chr9 21957750 21984490 uc003zpl.1
        CDKN2A
How do we interpret such a gene with the two same chromStart but two different
chromEnd coordinates?

Thanks,

Hao Zheng
