Hi Halian, The number after the dot (.) is the version number of the transcript. For example, see: http://uswest.ensembl.org/Homo_sapiens/Transcript/Idhistory?db=core;g=ENSG00000223972;r=1:11869-14409;t=ENST00000456328
For searching, yes, just remove the dot (.) and the version number.
