Hello Kavita, We are about to release a new build of UCSC Genes, which you can see right now on our preview website: http://genome-preview.ucsc.edu/. (Be aware that in general there is a lot of untested and experimental data on the preview site.) With this build, we have made improvements to our naming scheme so that the kgXref geneSymbol and description columns for non-RefSeq transcripts come from the overlapping RefSeq annotation, if there is one. It looks like your example below (and many others) have improved descriptions in the new build. If you have further questions, please contact us again at [email protected]. -- Brooke Rhead UCSC Genome Bioinformatics Group On 1/27/12 10:54 AM, Garg, Kavita wrote: > Hi, > > I am trying to find definitions/descriptions for ucsc known genes > (hg19).
