i have been having this problem for a few weeks now. when too many complex
tracks are requested (either by me by mistake or by the previous unknown user
on genome-test), it overloads the display capacity of the browser and indeed
freezes firefox for ten minutes or so until it is finally able to load. and
this is with a fairly good internet connection.

the culprit is all these too-complicated, too-many chip-chip encode type tracks
as well as mRNA and EST tracks with many hundreds of entries.

there is no real user escape because even if the tab is closed, the browser
will bomb over and over again until someone happens to leave it in a
configuration with fewer troublesome tracks displayed.

this is happening both on human and drosophila. it just tied up my web browser
for 15 minutes because someone left all the chip-chip tracks open in
drosophila.

this really needs to be addressed -- it is unacceptable performance,
unavoidable, and unpredictable. the user might have a dozen other job tabs open
and not want to force web browser to quit.
