Looking at all this, I wonder: Have you done something like (in effect): emerge =xorg-x11-7.0-r1 emerge =xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6 emerge -C xorg-x11 emerge =xorg-x11-7.0-r1 Portage thinks you have all the dependencies merged, but you don't actually have them installed. There are brute-force ways to fix this (e.g., 'emerge -pe xorg-x11' will show you much more than you need.) There are probably more subtle ways to fix this, but what you have to do, one way or another, is to get portage to forget about any xorg-x11 related packages it thinks you have installed, and do a completely fresh xorg-x11 install.
