I am unable to open the link. However, there's a utility called webcam from media-tv/xawtv-3.95-r1:

mars mansour # webcam
reading config file: /root/.webcamrc
video4linux webcam v1.5 - (c) 1998-2002 Gerd Knorr
grabber config:
  size 320x240 [16 bit YUV 4:2:2 (packed, YUYV)]
  input (null), norm (null), jpeg quality 75
  rotate=0, top=0, left=0, bottom=240, right=320
ioctl: VIDIOC_DQBUF(index=0;type=VIDEO_CAPTURE;bytesused=0;flags=0x0 [];field=ANY;;timecode.type=0;timecode.flags=0;timecode.frames=0;timecode.seconds=0;timecode.minutes=0;timecode.hours=0;timecode.userbits="";sequence=0;memory=unknown): Invalid argument
capturing image failed

I will look into the error message. It's worth mentioning, that the cam led flashs with the blue light indicating it's working then it goes off.

I have been trying to get the webcam to work on:

Linux mars 2.6.29-gentoo-r5 #1 SMP Sat Aug 8 13:33:30 ADT 2009 x86_64
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ca:1810 Ricoh Co., Ltd

I enabled V4L in the Kernel and enabled API 1.0.
Then I installed the driver as in :
