I do have to weigh in that in the "real" HPC world, either modules or
softenv out of ANL [ http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/systems/software/msys/ ]
are the way to do things.

I understand Donnie's statement and do thing that the "Gentoo way" needs to
be solved as well. However, any cluster solution really should include
either modules or softenv.
