A simple dns query is enough:

#host cvs.jackit.sourceforge.net

cvs.jackit.sourceforge.net is an alias for cvs.sourceforge.net.
cvs.sourceforge.net has address 66.35.250.207

I believe sf.net got one big cvs server for all the projects they host.
