i'm sorry, i'm using the 2.6.0-gentoo-r1, and it's all about C.
i know someone else using gentoo having the exact same problem, same kernel i

yes i read that, but i can assure you, this is not the real reason.
i`ve run several tests, and it ALWAYS works as root, but NEVER as user.
that would have to be one hell of a picky nameserver.

btw: 
problem lies here: 
        struct hostent *noiphost;       
        noiphost = gethostbyname("dynupdate.no-ip.com");

I am sorry if this is not the appropiate place for this problem, and i don't 
want to keep the list busy with it.
i'm just clueless about it and thougt that maybe somebody else had experianced 
this.
