There's at least two reasons to remove it (it's unmaintained, out of date, and incompatible), and at most zero to keep it. Fix upstream and the reasons for removal will be gone, and the (illusion of) choice will be there again. Note that I refuse to accept the idea that this is choice. The code is the same.
